Mind The Gap

It's that time of year again - and I don't mean spring. It's that time when you (or perhaps I should say, I - and everyone else I know) relentlessly badger your neighborhood Gap staff to see when those limited-edition, classic white shirts designed by the year's hottest designers will hit the racks. Because the harsh reality is, if you blink, they will be gone.

To fete this much-anticipated time, Vogue's Sally Singer, Meredith Melling-Burke and Men's Vogue's Bonnie Morrison hosted a cocktail at Rockefeller Center Monday night to celebrate this years editions. The designers include Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian, Philip Crangi Jewelry, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Threeasfour, all in attendance this evening. Gaggles of Gap enthusiasts crowded in the roomy Forty-ninth Street loft space where the crisp white shirts were on display.

Lake Bell and Keisha Whitaker (bottom right with Patrick Robinson and both dazzling in Doo Ri and Phillip Lim looks) along with Ferebee Bishop Taube, wearing an incredible mustard-yellow, Sari Gueron number and Olivia Chantecaille toured the mannequins pointing out their favorites. Also in attendance were Vogue's Virginia Smith (right with Marina Rust and Tory Burch) and Filipa Fino (left with yours truly). "Last year I couldn't find them anywhere. They were sold out everywhere!" lamented a vintage Ungaro- clad Byrdie Bell (top right with Olivia Chantecaille and Ferebee Bishop Taube) . This year we'll all know better.

Helping Hands

Luisana

Nothing says springtime better than a Sunday afternoon luncheon.

As luck would have it, the Latin American Health Foundation's kick-off luncheon, originally scheduled for Sunday, April 6 (you may recall, the temperature barely hit 55), moved to this past Sunday, taking full advantage of our first real warm-weather weekend.

Luisana Mendoza, former Vogue jewelry editor and the fearless leader behind the foundation, hosted the luncheon with fellow chairs Maria Luisa Leviant (bottom left with Maria Luisa Mendoza and Yvonne Gimenez), Jana Pasquel (top right with Luisana Mendoza), Jane Bloomingdale (right with Berry and Hayley Bloomingdale), and myself to introduce New Yorkers (and Americans, for that matter - the foundation has just moved its office from Venezuela to New York) to LAHF and its plans for the future.

Bloomingdale

The affair, if I do say so myself, went off splendidly! At the former downtown loft of photographer Francois Halard (now owned by Jewelry designer Aurora Lopez, who generously offered up the space), guests enjoyed cool cocktails and traditional Venezuelan appetizers while lounging on Moroccan throw pillows strewn throughout the airy loft.

Ladies and gents pulled out their summer best, shedding (finally!) heavy knit layers for light linens and bright floral prints. Mendoza sported a chic cream Christian Cota dress while Leviant and Pasquel went with floral pieces from Dries Van Noten and Erdem respectively. After a short video on the Hospital Infantil (the Venezuelan Children's Hospital the foundation has taken up as its cause this year) and a lovely risotto lunch, guests made their exits (reluctantly), eager to sign up for the next Sunday-funday. What can I say? We Latinas sure know how to throw a good party.
